In the fall of 1861, Edward Spiller, established a new company in Richmond. The Spiller & Burr company received a contract from the CS Government for  15,000 revolvers to be delivered in two and a half years time from the date of the order. Spiller and Burrr moved to Atlanta and started production of the revolvers in a factory owned by the Government, capable of producing 1,000 pieces per month. With a greater demand than expected the company could not keep up and went out of business.  The Confederate government purchased the business and moved production to Macon, Georgia.

The design was patterned after the Whitney Navy revolver.  Only about 10% of the scheduled 15,000 were ever completed

36 caliber with a 6.5" octagonal barrel.
